Buckingham Futures are recruiting for an Environmental Health Officer in Essex. You will work in the Commercial Team and must be flexible, enthusiastic, a good team member and have a can-do attitude. The contract will initially be for a six month period with a possible extension thereafter.
Key responsibilities
- Achieve the targets and service plan aims for the Commercial Team and contribute to the corporate aims and objectives of the Operations Directorate and Council.
-Enforce standards relating to Food Safety, Health and Safety, the control of infectious disease and other relevant legislation in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
-Direct the work activities of Technical Officer(s) to ensure an efficient, effective and professional service.
-To undertake a specialist role in a topic(s) agreed with the Environmental Health Manager to provide in depth knowledge, expertise, advice and guidance to other EH team staff.
-Deal with all inspections of commercial premises and examine foodstuffs (including imported food arriving at Stansted Airport if required).
-Process all complaints and enquiries and take formal or informal enforcement action as necessary to resolve such matters promptly and efficiently.
-Prepare and serve letters, statutory notices, collect evidence and prepare prosecution documentation for legal proceedings as necessary.
-Provide professional information and advice to all users of the service, customers and outside bodies as required.
-Produce accurate correspondence and records for the Commercial Team including reports, letters, memoranda, computer data etc in accordance with defined targets.
-To comply with and/or ensure compliance with the Council Data Protection policies and the Data Protection Act and other relevant legislation.
-To comply with the Council’s Equal opportunities policy, Code of Conduct and other relevant policy, procedures and legislation.

1. A Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, be EHRB registered.
2.Preferably two years experience gained in a local authority and/or private sector.
3.Evidence of continuing professional development.
4. Meeting requirements of any formal competency frameworks
5. Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the issues and legal requirements involved in food safety, health and safety and other relevant legislation.
6.Demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of current best practice relating to Food Safety, Imported Food, Port Health, Health and Safety, Infectious Disease and other duties of the Commercial section.

A copy of relevant qualifications, CPD certificates and certificates of registration with EHORB/EHRB (or equivalent) must be held on file by Buckingham Futures before the contract commences.
