Buckingham Futures have an excellent opportunity in Hampshire for an interim or permanent Lead Food Officer to join their dynamic team.

This role involves being responsible for three Food Officers in the team and:

  • Overseeing their workflow
  • Ensuring they adhering to legislation, policy, and government guidelines
  • Providing key Input into policy and strategy
  • mentoring of Junior officers – one to one’s – technical mentoring
  • overseeing primary authority function  - Client visits


  • To support and assist the Service Manager in ensuring the effective organisation and delivery of the statutory, non-statutory, technical professional and operational standards to achieve the requirements of both the Team and the Service as a whole.
  • To lead on identified work areas of the Team on a day to day basis, on the instruction and guidance of the Service Manager. To develop and implement any new initiative within the Service, ensuring liaison and collaboration across and between teams, as appropriate, which will consistently deliver high quality customer focused services.
  • The main roles of the post will be to manage all operational and administrative duties within the remit of the Environmental Health (Food Safety) Team and as allocated to you, such as i) the investigation and enforcement of alleged contraventions of legislation, ii) the supervision of various areas of work/projects, and iii) any supervisory responsibilities for finance and personnel, iv)Working out with normal hours will be required, including participation in Standby Service covering out of hour’s incidents & attendance at public meetings etc.


To be considered you must hold one of the baseline qualifications, and have associated registration. The base line qualifications are Higher Certificate in Food Control or certificate of registration or Diploma issued by Environmental Health Registration Board.

The candidate is expected to have:-

A Specialist knowledge in an area of Environmental Health subject material (Food)

Extensive knowledge of other Environmental Health legislation

Detailed knowledge of Food Enforcement Procedures as they relate to Environmental Health issues

Ability to meet targets and work to deadlines

Sound organisational ability

Rational, methodical approach to problem solving

Ability to work, and lead, effectively within a Team

You will possess strong communication, organisational and time management skills, and be able to work as part of a team or on your own initiative.

This would be the perfect opportunity for an experienced, senior EHO looking to move into management responsibility.

A copy of relevant qualifications, CPD certificates and certificates of registration with EHORB/EHRB (or equivalent) must be held on file by Buckingham Futures before the contract commences
