(BF5109) HR Recruitment/Pay Assistant

Working on behalf of a Local Authority in Cheshire, Buckingham Futures has an excellent opportunity for a HR Recruitment/Pay Assistant. To support the implementation of a casual worker recruitment and pay project; updating, amending and rationalisation of existing records on HR/Pay system iTrent, mail merges, supporting recruitment process post selection.


Specific purpose of this role:

  • Work to strict deadlines and manage conflicting priorities to ensure that accurate and timely payment of salary and other contractual elements of pay are made by applying differing terms and conditions for all employees and workers, including those who have transferred into the Council.
  • Undertake a comparison of current month and previous month’s net pay variances and take corrective action to ensure correct payments are made to payees and to meet audit payroll key controls.
  • Complete statutory and non-statutory enquiry forms and complex correspondence so that accurate employment and pay information is provided on behalf of the payees to relevant government departments and governing bodies (including Teachers’ Annual Returns) to ensure accuracy of payments, final retirement payments etc are made.
  • Finalise pay and contractual documentation by meeting with new starters during the initial period of their employment to ensure all necessary documentation is received for salary payments within set deadlines.
  • Notify employees of the outcome of any reviews of allowances to ensure that these are paid correctly and timely to eligible employees.
  • Notify pension fund providers of any amendments to individual scheme member.
  • Advise managers, head teachers and employees of differing terms and conditions of service for employees so that these are consistently applied across the Council.
  • Investigate and respond to general employment queries, using own initiative to find agreeable solutions to problems arising and conflicting priorities.



  • Previous experience of using HR Systems, preferably iTrent.
  • Previous experience of administering recruitment processes and carrying out pre-employment checks
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Understanding of recruitment legislation, procedures and good practice
  • Experience of using hr information systems
  • Knowledge of HR processes, administration and systems
